Rome Tours – What to do in Rome in less than three days

I realized that it is possible to see and do so much in Rome in a short time if you are well organized. So, for example, in 3 days you can see the most amazing places and really enjoy this wonderful city.

I researched Rome tours before traveling to see what was on offer as I found that booking in advance meant I was well organized and didn’t waste valuable time on arrival.

Arrival Day 1: I strongly recommend that you, like me, use a private transfer from the airport to Rome and not the train. It was definitely money well spent because that way you don’t waste time that could be better spent enjoying the city.

I checked into my hotel, freshened up. To get a feel for the city, I organized a private tour of Rome for the highlights I really wanted to see. So my guide met me at the hotel and we went for a wander around the area.

I saw the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain (did what everyone did…threw some coins in the fountain). Then we wandered into Piazza Venezia with the Monument to Vittoria Emanuella II (quite a crazy intersection and funny watching a policeman on a little stand directing all the traffic. My guide told me that at Christmas people leave gifts there to thank him for keeping him. We ended the private tour with a walk around the incredible Pantheon before ending up in Piazza Navona where we stopped for coffee.

Day 2: After breakfast I put on my most comfortable walking shoes, as I realized yesterday that Rome really is a very walking city. Now it’s time to put the research you’ve done on Rome Tours to good use.

I booked the Best Vatican City Tickets Tour tour and that was a real highlight for me. My tour included the Vatican Museums, Michelangelo’s work in the Sistine Chapel (the ceiling is simply stunning) and also the beautiful Pietà in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Day 3: After breakfast I finished checking out of the hotel and they were happy to store my luggage while I went on my next tour. I booked a bus tour of Rome which included the Colosseum, the Forum and the lesser known Palatine Hill. It was amazing and as I wandered around the arena I felt like I could hear the lions and the crowds roaring!…just like in the movie “Gladiator”! well almost!. The Roman Forum was more about understanding the power and influence of the Roman Empire, so it was fascinating to say the least.
